Together, things feel better.

We’re Rachel and Chloe, co-founders of The Student Sanctuary — a pastoral support service built on years of direct experience working with university students, many of whom face stress, isolation, or personal challenges while living in private accommodation.

We’ve both worked in the University of Exeter’s Welfare Team for over four years, supporting hundreds of students through academic pressures, mental health challenges, and crisis situations.

Our passion is simple: to offer consistent, compassionate support that helps students settle, feel seen, and stay well.

  • 4+ years in university student welfare

  • Qualified Social Worker (Rachel)

  • Experienced Children’s Residential Home Manager (Chloe)

  • Certified in Life Coaching, Student Mentoring, Safeguarding, Trauma-Informed Practice, Neurodivergence, and Crisis Intervention

We don’t just understand policy and process — we understand people.

Why It Matters?

We know how isolating student life can feel — especially when you're away from home and outside traditional university systems. Our experience means we can spot early signs of struggle, respond with empathy, and bridge the gap between students and the wider support network.

We don’t replace university wellbeing teams — we complement them. We help prevent escalation, reduce pressure on accommodation staff, and support every student having the opportunity to access to support.
